Working My Ass Off

I have not seen my ass in the CS since the beginning of spring. As soon as I head for spin class it runs to the elliptical to read the N.Y. Times Digest. Working my ass off? I don’t know what the hell I am sitting on but it’s not my ass.

Welcome to KSC

Here is a place where I get to talk about my favorite pastime, spinning. As a former marathoner/ultra marathoner it is in taking this class that I am regaining some of my former athleticism. As a runner I was very accustomed to moving from point A to point B. Here of course our movements are restricted to up and down out of our banana seat. But spinning like running is not just about movement it is about what goes on between our ears as well.

KSC means many things to me, it’s about losing weight, gaining endurance and strength but mostly it’s like Zen and a 12-step program all rolled into one. Let’s face it our motivation comes from within. There is no one going to put us on report if we don’t give our best effort here. However, if we are in this class we demand it of ourselves, we demand it.

This blog is experiential not scientific, we can leave the science of exercise to the instructors. They have the credentials and most importantly the charisma to fill the studio each and every time. I try to catch the inspiration each class as they pitch it, and frankly I am having a ball doing what I love: writing and writing about my new fascination spinning and doing it with the very talented staff at Woodbury who never take anything for granted.
